The world’s first vampire? You might think of Dracula, but that’s not the case! The earliest recorded vampire was Peter Blagojević, a Serbian peasant who died in 1725 and was believed to have turned into a vampire. After his death, nine villagers in Kisilova suddenly passed away, reportedly after claiming on their deathbeds that Blagojević had throttled them at night. His wife also reported that he visited her, asking for his shoes. Terrified, the villagers exhumed his body and found it unusually well-preserved, with fresh blood at his mouth. In response, they drove a stake through his heart, a common method to prevent further vampire attacks. This incident is one of the earliest and most well-documented cases of vampire hysteria.
